Thanks guys .
Fixed the headlamp covers , bit agricultural but not coming off ! Glassed in small flange and used soft 3 prong aluminium rivets with rubber rivet washers to stop lexan cracking .
As the car had not been in storage for nine months , sent the injectors for a clean ,put some fresh fuel in and started car first turn of the key . Impressed wth the ecu and tune as it settled into a very nice steady idle , this is with toms ecu and after a run on his dyno last year before storage .
Trying not to touch it so I can get it to a track this spring before I start fiddling and its in a million bits again !

Been a bit quiet recently as I have been moving house , never again , but I do now have a insulated double garage which has enabled me to have both cars at home for the first time and I can open a car door inside the garage , luxury .

I have managed to do a couple of things to the car like drop a socket and dent the freshly painted wing and connect the battery with the ignition on which the vems ecu did not like . Now back in Estonia with Peep being repaired . This has allowed me to remove the oil filter housing to repair a leaking weld on a An fitting I welded on now that I have a decent 5 bar oil pressure.

Also got to use this little lift I bought ages ago but couldn't slide under the car in the old single garage . Had to lift the front of the car but picks up the centre lifting point and the rear jacking point . No easier than a trolley jack and axle stands but 100 per cent safer without the worry of the axle stands tipping over .

Hi pauly , I had the 3l 8valve on the road originally before the rod bolt let go on the dyno and we put the 16v in . That one really is not enjoyable on the road anymore with solid engine mounts etc so purely for the track which is why fitting this fire extinguisher system the weekend . Bought it from a mate who has to replace it on his historic racer even though in good condition . As for the rubber fuel tank he has to replace every 5 years , what a waste. Dual tank with 3 nozzles in the engine bay should give some peace of mind .

If I have managed to do it correctly should be a link to the car on the dyno . Not good at that sort of thing .


As for the other , it was running and ready for an mot when we buggered the ecu . Just waiting to get ecu back from Peep .
In the meantime noticed the oil cooler was not getting warm when engine hot so replaced the oil thermostat , did all three as reasonable price from porsche of £60 including spring , cheap insurance . I found that the rattle gun started to destroy the internal plug so found large stilsons much better with constant force. Still one hell of a crack when the threads let go.

Ecu arrived back , plugged in and car started . Nice idle and revs very freely . Slight issue with hot starting but that will just be a fueling issue that will need adjusting . So of for an mot very soon .
I also purchased those 968 seat covers that were kicking around ebay for a while . My own seat covers were really badly cracked and did not match the rears so had the 968 head panel replaced and had them recovered . Decent quality leather apparently and dont look to bad , ties in with the yellow calipers .
And nearly finished the other 16v turbo engine, just need the intake manifold and crossover welded up .

Just a quick update that may be of help to other people with similar problems . The hot start and supposed fueling problem seemed to get worse with what ever we tried , the car would catch and then die no matter what injector /fuel settings we were giving it via the ecu . Or not catch at all which was odd as we had it running two days before .
You can do a test with the vems and run the fuel pump via the laptop which ran fine and everything else seemed ok which was baffling us . Then noticed that when the car caught and initially started the fuel pressure would drop of , meaning the fuel pump was shutting of even though it ran with out fault if tested by itself . Couldn't possibly be the dme relay ?

Well swapped it out for a spare and it starts first time everytime on the button and idles spot on . Result .

Anyone know where to get those solid state relays in the uk .

Change of design on the oil pan for the dry sump . After seeing a post on Rennlist with regard a modified stock pan that worked have copied the same design . Two pipes either side for oil pick up and a rounded baffle . The tubes have an elongated slit along the base.
Have also welded up the two holes in the block that feed water to the oil filter housing and the balance shaft oil feeds, the dipstick hole , the oil level sender hole and the air oil seperator holes .

How's the VEMS running, are you controlling boost via the solenoid?

Hope everyone keeping safe .
At least this time of work gave me a chance to carry out some of those little projects kept meaning to do .
The first was installing a lexan hatch into a frame I have had prepared for ages . The glass had been broken out and frame powder coated in preparation but fixing the lexan in with tigerseal and a couple of fine thread bolts was a complete ball ache with most things getting a liberal coating . I would not bother again as I cant see the weight loss , not that much, is worth the hassle.
And at the other end I had a fiberglass bonnet ready to install but the aerocatch latches are a pain to fit , panel gaps are crap and again the weight loss isn't that great and I wouldn't bother again so the vented bonnet might be going back on .
Pauly the vems is good ,slowly sorting it out on the road, had it booked in to Regal for the rolling road to set up top end but they are shut at the moment . Using manual boost controller at the moment , there is an electronic controller ready to go on when everything else sorted .

Although being told not a good idea by people far more knowledgeable than me , I installed solid and semi solid engine mounts on the cars and can confirm that it is not a good idea , certainly the solid mounts . The vibrations aren't that bad ,even the solid mounts on the track car but had a rattle and found the manifold heat shield mount support broken clean which was a worry for other parts . This is with just time on the rolling road and occasional blast on the road. This engine also has balance belt on . Really glad I strengthened the pick up pipes .
So took the decision to replace both lots of mounts to rubber . Rolling around on the garage floor, two of us took about 3 and a half hours per car and lesson learnt .
Having put this heat shield back on several times with engine in the car doing oil cooler seals I know what a pain it can be but the stars aligned and the new shield was back on in 15 minutes !!!! Amazed myself !
Must admit the difference is dramatic , must be time for that lexus .

Not sure when I bought the VEMS with wasted spark and boost solenoid from Peep, has to be over 2 years ago. I'll get around to fitting it one day :) .
