Hi Nick, yes still got a powder coated set although the end caps are removed. You will probably leave them like that for easy removal of torsion bars on the 924 which is looking fantastic by the way.
No bhp figures as yet from Tom who is doing a great job setting up the car carefully. He has just taken the car up to 6500 revs on spring pressure, 0.5/0.6, and all looks good with no hesitations and car is boosting from 2100 revs. This is with pulling away in third gear there is so much torque as there is a selector problem he is correcting. Gears are overated anyway.

Had a good day today as finally got the 8v turbo fitted and put a few bits of the front suspension on . Not such a good start as I rebuilt the engine behind the car in a single garage so had to move the car out without the front suspension and wheels swinging on an engine hoist, but soon had it swapped round and engine in.
Front now on the floor ready to drop the rear suspension and get it cleaned up. Turning into more of a restoration than intended , but while the parts are of the car it seems silly not to.

Thanks Waylander , most of the effort is getting things cleaned , plated and painted .

Just an update on the 16v turbo that Tom is playing around with on his rolling road . Had problems controlling boost with the manual boost controller so going to ebc and the 55lb injectors being maxed out at 4700 rpm . Even so at 1 bar of boost and 2700 rpm he is getting 240 ft lbs at the wheels , about 270 -280 at the flywheel now he has the traction sorted out. Bodes well for a good hp figure. Tom is doing a great job of setting the engine up properly .

Got the flywheel ,clutch and bell housing in the weekend as well as another rebuilt torque tube. I had a spare shaft with worn splines that was going to the scrappy but ended up cutting a foot of the end and it makes the perfect clutch alignment tool.
Just waiting on the arms from the garage who are pressing out the bearings for me and the rear suspension can go back on. Really pleased with how this one's turning out with the underneath looking as good as up top.

Hi Prophead, yes I have been following your thread with intrest . Managed to get it all in today as well as the gearbox with new short shift and output seals . Worst part was getting handbrake shoes back together.
Also had a message from Tom on the 16v that he has fitted the 850cc injectors and that they are at 80% at 1 bar which is good for for 400+ hp . Going to run it 1.2 bar and see where that puts it.

Its been a case recently of the car fighting back every time I attempt to do something . Firstly there was the saga with the different spring plates meaning I had to re drop the rear beam, now just when I hoped to start her up for the first time the weekend , I went to fit the power steering pump and realised I had fitted the wrong balance shaft cover with the bracket missing ! When I started building this engine it was a back up for my track car that has a manual steering rack so out of three lower balance shaft covers I put the broken one on as I wouldn't need the bracket and keep the others as spares, but things changed and this engine went into my road car and completely forgot until the weekend.
So after a serious tantrum , stripped front cover, balance belt and sprockets and main crank pulley which gave enough room to remove and replace cover and reinstall everything. As is often the case ,the thought of redoing it all was worse as it only took just over an hour but by then it was to late in the day to get her started. You can see in the photos with the engine on the stand the missing bracket .
Also got my calipers back from refurbishment . Being an 86 they are are strange size and style but I was lucky that the scrapper seals were reusable not so lucky was that 7 of the pistons were pitted . So rather than having new brembo pistons installed a set of stainless pistons were made which should solve the problem long term.
Fingers crossed should have running next weekend.

Forgot to mention that the calipers were done by Chris at custom brake calipers, who did a great job and organised having the pistons made in stainless steel for any other 86 turbo cars . Simon

Looking great!

I'm just waiting on the nuts/bolts order to arrive from Porsche! Then can get the rear together myself!

Those stainless pistons look like a very good idea. How much were they, if you don't mind me asking?

Oli.

Thanks Nick , look forward to the photos of yours.

Oli , Chris had these made locally to him at a very comparable price to Brembo pistons but should last much longer. He charged £390 including vat for 16 stainless steel pistons made to size . I did toy with changing hubs and getting some later calipers but they all needed a refurb and it worked out more expensive, also its nice to keep some originality about the car.
