Car now sold and both engines spoken for .

Not surprised, it was a lot of car and engine for the money. A few years ago I was offered a good 944 turbo, with a JMG 3.2 engine in it, for £11k. Should have bought it really. Are you clearing out anything else Simon?

No Paul, nothing else , that gives me a bit of space in the garage with just the one car and engine . With the new found space I am thinking of putting Barrys old engine in sooner now I can turn the car longways and not worry about the weather .
Hopefully the new owner will be on here some time . His intention is to mot it and drive between track days .

Its gone very quite on this forum recently , bit of a shame .
So now a car is sold it has given me garage space to swap in that engine I got from Baz . Started this afternoon stripping parts out ready to remove engine tomorrow . Also had a look at how going to fit a slightly larger intercooler .

Keep the updates and pics coming Simon. No doubt the long term members left on here are interested in your builds. Even if we don't post much these days. There hasn't been a good argument on here or PCGB for years .

Now I have done this a few times , it took 4 hours to drain fluids and have the engine on a stand . First time I have left the torque tube in place mind .
My Kep stage 1 PP has turned up just waiting on a 930 disc to arrive before the new engine can go back in . Gives me time to clean up engine bay and fit the starter cable Martin has made up . Well worth replacing just as a bit of insurance .
In case anyone wondering ,the front has been chopped out to fit larger intercooler . A support bar is bolted across to hold intercooler.

I've read there's not much time difference between changing a clutch, and removing/replacing an engine.

Great stuff, love to read this!! Armed with this knowledge I shall be pushing my mechanic pal along to get my engine out the crate and install it! 4 hours he's got!! (Hoping to start it next week he says!)

Out of curiosity, are you not replacing a 3L 16v with another 3L 16v? Or is it a 2.5 or 2.8 you had in?

Hi Stuart , putting back in takes slightly longer than taking out so cut him some slack .
Yes , actually going down from 3.3 to 3.0 16v but I want to compare the Nicosil liners to the steel liners with the nicosil tighter tolerances plus all the other mods Barry built in with split water ways etc .
I am sure I will probably not notice any difference but I get another brownie badge to add to my collection .
Also it keeps me away from “Bargin hunt” “Cash in the attic” or other dribble that makes up daytime tv.

Interesting none the less. I'm making the transition to steel liners from albeit very scraped nikasil. I also think I'll be unable to tell the difference!

So while waiting for some parts , whipped off the sump to have a look and all looked good , bores were spotless . There had been slight concern after all those weeks in the past trying to get oil pressure due to hidden freeze plug and constantly turning it over even with lube . What is noticeable is the way the piston comes below the bottom of the bore with the longer stroke of this engine . I have tried to take a photo to show this but the angle is very acute . Something to be aware of if fitting straight liners rather than flanged if increasing stroke.
Also mocking up new intercooler to allow just one short pipe to TB giving more space in engine bay for electric water pump . Ordered a Davies Craig (Craig David ?) 150L and going to have a go at using the Vems to run it .
