Hi Everybody
I have just tried to renew my membership but to no avail, I will try the phone number tomorrow. I have been away with the Royal navy for a considerable period of time and the 944 is now beyond patching for the MOT and needs a complete body rebuild. Fortunately before joining the RN I was a welder but I am looking for advice on where to get body parts from or am I better going to a scrappy?
as it progresses i will post pics but I am certainly looking for any advice.

Paul, assuming your PayPal address details for the account are correct then yes. Lee gets on here every now & again so will respond to you in a while.

For sills Id go to Porsche. OS sills are about £140+VAT and NS (968) sills are about £160+VAT. Unfortunately original 944 NS sills are no longer available, although I had heard a rumour that they may be reintroduced. 968 sills have several boxed indentations which will need to be dealt with, but its the only option if a simple repair panel isnt sufficient. Repair panels are available for about £40 each and these may be adequate for your requirements.

If the inners are corroded then Id suggest cutting and letting in, although its easier to say than do...

For front and rear wing repairs Id suggest leaving the original panels on and cutting out the corrosion before welding in repair pieces. New wings are ferociously expensive now and without factory quality sealing, theyll be oxidised and spoiled in two or three years!

Got it today thanks. A new Portamig welder on way to start the work and the new workshop arrives tomorrow leaving me plenty of room around the car in the garage. 32 amp supplies to go into both the garage and workshop very shortly.

Well I have finally started work on the car and with a new wing currently over £700 it seemed a good place to cut my teeth. Now I have never welded on anything as thin as this or worked on car bodywork either, so any comments to help me out would be appreciated. I currently have two cars (both 944's), the one I am working( Solid sills and underneath) on has been bodged to look like a later S2 which meant that someone had sawed a patch off the wing off by the lights, I want to put it back to original so I used the wing off the other car which had a rusty bottom edge and thought I would just chop the bottom off the other wing and weld them together and hey presto "two becomes one". Not that easy unfortunately as when I chopped the bottom edge off to weld on to the other wing it became like Swiss cheese on cleaning up as shown in picture 1.
I therefore had to set about repairing my repair piece!! This is shown post repair in picture 2.
Once this was complete and cut to match the other wing it was tacked and welded in place: picture 3. Once ground down I was reasonably pleased with the results.
Now the most important bit, I offered it up to the car and it fits: picture 4.
The other wing will be next and I have not even looked at that yet but expect it to be quicker as I have learned quite a bit already just doing this.

Hey, that's some fine repair work there, I can see you have done a bit of welding!

Back in the day I was a welder but that was on submarine pressure hulls and 20 years ago It is just a case of getting used to the thinner plate and getting my hand back in, a good machine helps as well lol.
