Had my wheels redone by my local sprayshop. They only charged £100 but they didn't need bead blasting as they were just dull & chipped. Worth asking around. The other bad point about bigger wheels is they load the wheel bearings. Mine are like service items.

PET says:

964 362 114 01 alloy wheel
7 J X 16
ET 55

/V 2 944S2

964 362 116 01 alloy wheel
8 J X 16

So 55 front, 52.3 rear.

Useful reference here:- http://www.944racing.de/wheelweights.php
Currenty using 16" D90 or 17" Cup2 (track) or 16" Cup Narrow spoke (winter)
Looks best on the Cup 2s imho but the narrow spokes are nice and light. D90s just look old fashioned.

Seems there's not a huge weight difference between the 17" Cup 1/2 and the 18" Carrera BBS wheels. On a dedicated track car I can understand cutting weight wherever practical, on a road car I'm not convinced a weight obsessed attention seeker with 100 bhp less would get to the shops any quicker than me  .

A fast Road driven car responds very well with lighter wheels more so than a track car does, because cornering forces and speeds are more of a priority on track and not as important on the road

I've got 3 (Square) sets of wheels:
The lightest wheel set is 60kg (6x16 + 195/55/16 Michelin Energy),
My middleweight set 64kg (7x16 + 205/55/16 Michelin Ps3)
and my heavy set 80kg (8x16 + 215/50/16 R888 Toyo)

On the road the Toyo / 8x16 set kills the acceleration and I think it would record a 0 to 100mph time 1-2 seconds slower than the lightest set (6x16's) the cornering grip is very good on the 2 lighter sets and not much less different to the R888's

But on the track the 8x16 and R888's even though they are 20kg and 16kg heavier than the other 2 sets pull much more G force and faster corner speeds than both of them, so even though they are much heavier they gain more laptime on their cornering ability compared to the loss of acceleration which the lighter sets benefit with on the road.

Yep on the nice smooth surface of a track the contact patch is greater with the 17"Cup 2s, on the road the 16" lighter wheel rides better and is less disturbed by the bumps, the greater aspect ratio also helps smooth out the ride.

I've run 968 Turbo S wheel/tyre size for 9 years, I'll put up with some bumps for the increased corner grip.

A 16" wheel set with trackday tyres will corner faster than road tyres on 18* rims on a track, and the same car back to back tested will lap faster
on the 16's not just due to the higher friction of the softer rubber but also the less weight.

18" wheels on any Porsche transaxle on public roads (also dependant on where you live) can be very disadvantaged due to their rim width (too wide) and
the tyre sidewall profile (too small). It's a proven fact that their extra weight od 18's say over a D90 set will increase the 0 to 60 time and they are appalling at dealing with the british roads lumps and bumps where traction suffers.

Massive diameter wheels really are all for show and no go and have been a big Fashion accessory and were marketed heavily to sell cars beginning when the BTCC had to increase the rim diameters due to a ride height regulation change.

F1 cars still use 13" and 5 years ago tested 18" to find them 12 seconds a lap slower! and a nightmare to control due to more wheelspin problems and sudden loss
of grip with less warning etc..

Luckily only 20 cars were produced with 18" wheels (968 Turbo S & RS) compared to approx. 12,500 968 's.

The patch is about the same, it's the shape that differs.......

A higher profile squashes the patch to be more of a rectangle shape longer (front to back) and thinner (laterally)
A wider rim width and lower profile number tyre has a wider shape but it's not as big front to back hence why they are not as good
for good traction and braking stability....which is why the drift boys use massive rims and ultra low and stretched tyres to loose grip, and top dragster
racers use high profile tyre which deform and have great traction..

No they are overkill, too big, too wide and too heavy so they would be slower than 16's with the same track tyres..!

The Porsche transaxle works much better with same size tyres front & Rear....

But I seem to recollect your application is not only a road only use, but also that you've had many scary moments with loss of grip
on those huge hoops!?

Your recollection is a figment of your imagination.
