You are more help than I think you realise and I am so very grateful for it all. :D
Another instalment of the ‘joys’ of classic car ownership on its way soon.

Took mine out for a drive to see the grandkids 50 mile round trip no occupant in the passenger seat so got to have a bit of fun round the perimeter track at stanstead airport, it was a bit greasy so loads of fun

Then got flashed and waved at by a white 17 plate Cayenne on the M11, not a bad day at all

Now needs a wash :(

Today, I have been mowstly fitting a sump gasket in the myriad of other jobs at hand.

Having heard of numerous sump fitting woes, I decided to use a bit of sealant on the critical areas - mainly corners and then bolt the gasket down gently with m6 bolts and some oversized washers.
This, I hope will return the gasket to it's original shape (post packaging) and let it settle so that it will not move at all when fitting. Of course, this job is made amply easier with the engine out:

I have also taken to cleaning and polishing up the Aluminium. At some point, I need to draw a line.

Next up, cam and balance belts, water hose inlet gasket, HVAC to block gasket, water pump, rocker cover gasket, new oil sender unit, new water sender unit, new temperature sensor...

A Sachs clutch kit is available from Part Works (De) for 488 euros, 15 euros p+p, inclusive of VAT.
Is it worth sealing the balance shaft housing on an engine with 74k on the clock?

Ordered the following ready to fit at the weekend:
- OEM boot struts- fitted last night, what a difference they make to the crappy aftermarket ones
- Bilstein B6 rears
- Retaining spring for gear shift knob
- Strip for switches on the dash
- Exhaust tip

Plus some prep' for the dreaded MOT on Monday!

MoT passed - No advisories!

Now off to get a price for recovering my seats that have had some kind of painted finish applied to them making the leather rock hard.

Well done on the MOT.

These have good reviews - https://www.only944.com/partscatalog/only/seatcovers/

I got a quote for a re-trim of seats and door cards and it was almost as much as I paid for the car !!!

Was that from Southbound? I calculated (without fitting), a complete ('Linen') interior for IRO £3750. Eeeek.

Nice link BTW.

Can't quite remember but mine was a similar figure in hounds-tooth. Very skilled job though with a lot of labour I'd imagine.

Those kits come out at USD390 + import tax etc I guess - maybe £400-£500?.

Just read the details and they are vinyl rather than leather.

I have been quoted approx £800 for full leather front seats that will look identical to existing inc the perforated leather by a local specialist.

He noted that the original seats (Im assuming mine are oroginal) are leather front faces with vinyl backs and plastic piping - and the rears are vinyl.

Hes proposaing all leather fronts instead. (inc piping) as whilst he could do vinyl, may as well do the all leather.

Total: £403

After conversion (0.76 - £295.50):
Duty: £8.84
VAT: £67.27

Incl. P+P @ 40 USD (probably a bit low).

That’s a pretty good price. Those kits look good but I wouldn’t trust myself to fudge up the install!!!

My thoughts exactly - I'll be getting them done when he has a slot available.

Attacked the rusty rear discs with a sheet sander and some 240 and 1200 grit wet and dry. They've come up like new and will hopefully keep the MOT re-test happy (along with a newly fitted handbrake cable).
