Took the front wheels off and test fitted the brake ducts. The originals were missing & I managed to find a fairly decent pair to replace those that had gone AWOL.
Tried measuring the ARB to ensure that I order the correct size replacement bushes but I wasn’t able to get a consistent measurement due to surface rust & the remains of the original paint. It’s another item to go on the refurb list.
Got the car out of the garage and started for the first time since mid September :bounce:

Incredible. Not as though they wouldn't have noticed doing it. Any chance there's CCTV to trace them?

No CCTV, you would think they would have some, private hospital!!

3k for a boob job it states in the hospital sales blurb and 1600 quid for a circumcision, if I find the arse that did it I would circumcise him for free with a rusty hacksaw blade

One of the reasons why I like older cars is that I don't have to invest in huge amounts of electronic diagnostics, and model specific tooling. This is why it is still feasible for a home mechanic like myself to maintain my fleet of cars. Manufacturers these days seem to be going out of the way to make it impossible for their products to be maintained anywhere other than their own extremely expensive service facilities. This is done for business reasons only - it's a moneymaking venture, and this is why I won't buy any car manufactured after about 1995. However, Porsche were one of the first to have spotted this opportunity, and 944 is an early example of this trend. Attempting to change the timing belt and water pump shows exactly the effect of this kind of mindset.

Today I spent a lot of time cursing at whoever designed the 944 engine. I was trying to remove the balance belt pulleys, but the only way you can stop the pulley turning is with yet another special tool. According to Pelican parts you can use a pair of angled pliers, but that didn't work for me - they just slip out. On another internet post I've seen someone jam a spanner into the ribs on the pulley, but I don't think that's a good idea as it will most likely damage the pulley in some way. It looks like I need to part with more money to get the special tool. This is after borrowing the flywheel locking tool, and welding up my own timing belt tensioner removal tool. So now the car sits there taking up space in my garage whilst I go out and purchase more special tools.

Why do Porsche do this? Other car manufacturers seem to be able to make engines can be taken apart with a normal toolkit (my Toyota and Volvo both seem to work on this principle, and I have done the timing belt and water pump job on both of those cars). I really am getting to the point where considering getting rid of this pain-in-the-ass car.

The rear timing belt cover is a p*ss poor design too. I remember welding up a tool to lock the pulleys though.

I just put two drill bits in the tool holes in the pulley shank first (make sure they are a good snug fit can't remember the size), flat metal bar across the bits close to the pulley to stop it all turning, ring spanner on the bolt and undo. Refit the same process

I am welding up a tool to do this right now. When it's ready, I'll put it up for loan to anyone on the forum.

My new crankshaft position sensor came yesterday for the 968 so I started the process of removing the old one to fit the new one but I can't get my Allen key in without removing the cam cover.... Is that really how it needs to be done? Seems mad really...

On another note, while the 968 isn't playing ball, I took the Rothmans to Anglesey yesterday :D
