Ordered this morning from my OPC - thanks again.

Also, I understand that the cir-clip (N 012 420 1) is on the inside of the valve cover - was it much effort to remove the valve cover when you removed it to spray as I've been advised you need to disconnect the fuel line & clutch pipe in order to get it off.

Assume 20nm torque will suffice for the heads that keep the cover on?

Gav,

I disconnected the 2 fuel pipes and I also unbolted the throttle cable bracket from the manifold so its not in the way - too maybe 10 mins to do that and makes the rest of the job so much easier.

The clutch pipe isnt in the way.

All but 2 of the bolts freed up easily, I tapped the last 2 with a hammer and jently applied a lot of presseure to undo them and they came free in the end - just be careful the hex is fully engaged so you dont round the allen head bolts.

On torque, Ive not refitted mine yet BUT 20NM IS FAR TOO MUCH!

They should be tightened to 10Nm (7.5ib/ft) - the head is alloy so easily stripped!

Thanks for that, hopefully no more than a 45 minute job for an amateur mechanic like me - are you going to use cement when replacing the gasket too?

The reason I say 20Nm is I had a look here https://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/TORQUESPEC.html and it states;
Location = Camshaft housing to cylinder head
Thread = M8
Tightening Torque Nm (ftlb) = 20 (15)

Might be for the 8V, the bolts for the twin cam are M6.

I really would find a manual online and download it, as reading random bits on the web could end up costing you a fortune.

the 968 is the same as the S2

I think "Cylinder head Cover" is the correct option on that list and it says 10/7.

In the Porsche Manual it says M6 10/7.5

I have read that a little RTV on the corners is all that is needed for the gasket - so i plan to use this....

I have just finished installing the werk924 dash in my car. In terms of looks and colour its totally perfect. It took one hell of a lot of effort to fit though.

At the same time I gave the carpets a shampoo and installed a pair of new seat base covers from southbound trimmers. I'm really happy with how its all turned out.

i really do think this will be one of the cleanest early 944's around.

After wrapping the bottom half of the car a few weeks ago the red\white bodywork made the wheels look a bit doom and gloom. I picked up a set of colour crested centre caps which needed some TLC so polished back the surrounds and repainted the crests. I think the colour now flows a bit better between the wheels\bodywork.

The plan is to get them refurbed in silver but a new clutch will be first,

Rothmans has had a bath, some topped up fluids and has changed into her summer wheels ready for tomorrow’s Northern-ish Gathering and the trip to Gmund :smile:
Winter wheels will be consigned to the track.... :grin:

I do suspect my rear drums may be in their last legs so am looking for new ones but they seem to well over £100 for a pair... Any ideas or suggestions on where's best to purchase them? Thanks in advance :smile:

Cleaned up the used rear disc backing plates that I managed to get hold of (thanks to Waylander for the pointer) and sprayed on 3 coats of stone chip and then two top coats of regular paint. Did the same to the front disc air baffle plates.
The front disc backing plates got rubbed down and two coats of zinc based primer followed by 4 coats of stone chip. The stub axles had their second coat of hammerite last weekend so all that happened today was to clean off any paint from mating surfaces and to run the thread chaser through all the bolt/screw holes.
Got Monday off so going to try and get the old track rod arms off- again! Failed miserably last time I attempted it but have been applying penetrating oil every few days since then so hopefully it might just work........

Love this car!
Are the rear drums not an Audi / VW part number as well? or, could be time for the rear disk brake upgrade.
