Went for a run with the Sottozeros on. Very impressed, quiet, better ride than the Yokos (but they are track tyres) very good wet grip.

PITA, PITA, PITA

Continued trying to get the crankshaft sensor out of its mounting but alas not....

After a soak in various fluids there as still no movement at all by hand and I couldn't get a hex tool into the horizontal bolts that hold the housing the sensor is in to the bell housing.

So, a couple of spanners, one end on the sensor, the other engaged in the ring end....

Image

mmmm, this is really tight!!! Even the spanners have had enough....

Image

I really would welcome some ideas on what I can do on this - I'm really stuck now and only have a week left to sort before I'm out of action for a few weeks... What tools or combination of tools should I look to use on this or is it really a case of strip all the other stuff such as inlet manifold out of the way and use BF&I?

Since then, I've been double checking the fuel and sparks side of things... There is fuel as the bypass on the DME does kick the fuel pump in. Checking the sparks using these fellas though reveals a different story...

Image

I cranked the car over but no sign of any spark.... but could it be that there are no sparks unless the Crank sensor send its message? There was 12V at the coil when cranking but the spark plugs told a different story...

Frustrations are growing on this now

pretty sure you can unbolt the sensor mounting bracket, then you can get the sensor and bracket on a workbench. You are right no crank signal no nothing.

Thanks Kashurst... Will see if I can get an Allen drive onto the housing... Could be the only way...

I'd use a better quality bit than those monkey metal spanners though  .

Nope.

The sensors have to come out first as the bracket has a dowel in it, the bracket has to slide rear wards off the dowel, this can't be done with the sensors sticking out the bottom as they hit the 'bell housing' before the bracket clears the dowel.

Sorry

I'd buy or make a tool that has a wider/tighter grip on the sensor, and that would fit in the end of a long extension bar. Then lots of good penetrating oil followed by plenty of backward and forward turning.

I haven't had that pleasure yet either, I'd maybe try a hot air gun on the housing too. If the sensor breaks is it a bellhousing off job?

Finished my cam belt and water pump service. New timing belt installed, new water pump and new seals for the cam and balance shafts. The car is running nicely, but now it's time to put it to bed for winter. There is too much ice and salt out there to give it a proper run now, so I will have to wait until spring.

I have no idea, but knowing a bit about these cars now it would not surprise me
