S2 Engine in an early 944 Lux does make for an exciting package.

Buy a whole written off, MOT failed or faulty (but with good engine) S2.

That way you get the brakes that I would recommend, the front hubs and a shed load of parts to sell on.

You will need to use an early fuel rail. The ICV is only a 2 pin on the early car and 3 pin on the later so using the later loom and ECU would be a good idea.

Good point Mike.

In my first post I mentioned using the 2.7 loom and having to adapt the fuse box and dash wiring for the early car, or using the early loom which may be easier, I would now say you might be better off using the late loom, or adapting the earlier loom to being 3 wire rather than 2 on the ICV.

Good point on using the early fuel rail too, last time we did it we had the fuel flexi hoses replaced with longer ones to work with a metal bend at the end. I think we did that because his old hoses were perished and his fuel rail has not in great shape.

Mike, you ever likely to want to sell your registration?

Couldn't sell it now, I use the number everywhere! I'd have to start again on all the forums :D

I only got it when I didn't like the plate on my first 944 - an '83 which I dropped a later 2.5 into hence the knowledge above - and DVLA had it for £250

Being an A plate car to start with restricted my choice somewhat, but I love it.

Great to see you on the forum John, you have a very good reputation, and its great to see you sharing your fantastic experience.

Edit - I used the old loom and swapped the ICV, (but I kept the same engine size) initially because I saw the early bulkhead grommet was round and the later one was oval. I couldn't believe the number of differences between the engines - '83 to '86.

The engine will fit physically. Sensors I cant recall after all these years, but you will need the injectors, airflow meter and ECU to suit the 2.7l engine that youre fitting.
