If your that fascinated by it...there's one for sale on Ebay right now:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1968-volkswag ... 3f149c3aeb

I think there were only about 500 ever made for the UK 1500cc and 250 1300cc. This one is a 1500cc, so it has the original disk brakes for this model and IRS rear suspension - which is nice when lowered as it does not have camber like the swing axel types. (experience talking!)

anyway...that's enough about VWs or I might get ousted :0D ....

good news, I now have all the parts I need. I received the door today, in Maraschino Red and it looks identical...well, in this dreary weather with dust on the car but looks good :0)

I also bought a nice set of wheels for my Van today, 70s wolfrace slot mags :bounce: so, I have to get them polished and fitted too.

Lots of work to do now though, it's never ending!

Of course it's never ending. That's half the joy of classic car ownership!

It's not at the moment, I'm just looking and thinking right now....that helps because I'm not sure what to begin with and in which order! Also I'm waiting for some scorching weather. I'll update you for sure when something happens and take some pictures too :0) I have my wing and wingmirror in the back of the van...they both need painting.

I love wolfrace slot mags, I wanted to buy a set and make them fit the MX5.

Yeah, I like them too, they are quite chunky looking, 6 inch fronts and 7 inch rears. I'm hoping to fit the original 185s on the front and get some wider rears tyres but I'm not sure how wide I can go really...will have to do some research. I think I'm going to paint some white detail on the insides and behind the lettering, to make them look extra neat! :0)

Hi..

Anyone here have any idea how much it would cost to get the whole rear quarter replaced and painted?

Probably quite a lot to get it done properly I'm afraid. There are 2nd hand decent rear quarter sections on e-bay for £125 to £200 I have seen. New they are about £600 I think. I would imagine at least £500 to fit and paint rising to maybe £1k depending on who does it and the quality of their work.

hmmm, yes thank you, that panel on ebay was what got me thinking to ask the question about prices for replacing the rear quarter but I have decided to repair the rear panel now, not replace it. Feel a bit crappy about it though because the car was pretty much filler free somehow but I suppose these things happen. I'm just glad I didn't scrap it, that would have been crazy.
