The fitting was OK, had to remove the bracket that is bolted within the centre console, and 'shoehorned' the double din cage in its place, bit of cutting and blood letting at that point...../

I appreciate it is some time since your post about fitting the Kenwood double din unit but I am considering doing the same and Halfords have some interesting offers at the moment with the possibility of several units with Car Play and the Google equivalent. This has the advantage of using apps that are on your iPhone/Android.

Getting back to your post can you please let me know which bracket had to be removed and can you confirm the cutting refers to the horizontal bar between the top DIN slot and the gadget box. Did you unit touch the tunnel? What did you use for the cowl?

Thanks in advance
Philip

Two solutions to consider now to make life easier are the Alpine iLX-700, a shallow depth HU and the Sony AZX-AX100. The Sony has a Single DIN Chassis. This potentially thanks to that may be a very easy double DIN HU to install, and has CarPlay/Android Auto.

its the two mounting brackets at the back of the hole, they help hold the console in place and provide rear support for a single DIN unit.

you don't need to touch the tunnel as far as I know

item 17 in a 968, and that little bracket is £30

Hi, I fitted this unit... I really liked the simplicity of the unit. One slight issue is the volume keys are nearly hidden behind the gear stick when in 1st, 3rd and 5th. It works brilliantly, there is now a slight newer unit with wireless CarPlay.

The big advantage with it is it's very shallow. Fitting it was straight forward enough. The cradle needed fettling a bit to get round the bracket. I did not do the wiring.
