Hi all,

just spent an hour or two skinning my knuckles to remove the window mechanism from my cab in an atempt to improve the window up speed. The motor and mechanism actually seems OK and I think the resistance is in the window track/guides.

Lets just say that I didnt need to support the glass when I removed the mechanism!

The first 50% is OK, but the top 50% seems resistant - which reflects the speed when using the motor.

Any ideas on what to do to lubricate/improve the window friction - oil doesnt seem to be a good idea here.

I've not taken the glass out yet.

Door cards were not too bad but Ill fibreglass the front corners as they were a bit "limp".

Any other "while you are in there" advice much appreciated.

Use silicone spray. Just pop down to Halfords and pick some up.

Spray into both window channels and your windows will be moving just like they did when the car left the factory.

As a rule never ever put any petroleum based lubricant on rubber, it will ruin it in the end

Silicone is the way to go, and if you can stand the smell the cherry dash shine contains loads of the plasticiser that the rubber looses over time

Got the mechanism back in after some faffing trying to get it linked to the glass  -and sprayed with silicone. Much improved.

Re-did the vapour barrier but couldnt do the door card as my old tin of glass resin had set in the can :(

Will finish it next weekend now.

(Cant drive the car anyway as the seats are in for a retrim).

Recently did my vapour barriers and was looking at how I could repair the corners of my door cards - hadn't thought of glass fibre, sounds like a good idea!

Also, you might want to look at these door card clips I have ordered from Amazon at £2.99 for 10, compared to more than £1 each at a well known porsche parts supplier.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1

I believe they are the same part.

Yes standard Audi / VW panel clips - purchased a bag from a similar seller on ebay.
