Hi all
I live in Sheffield and have owned my 1988 Lux for just over a year. I bought it when my MK2 Golf GTi was written off and after a fruitless search to replace it with another Golf I decided on a change.
It's a nice original example having covered 63K miles from new with a good service history with most tax discs etc.
It was stood for 10 years so needed some re-commissioning when it was discovered in a late owner's garage. This included new inner and outer sills and painting the sides of the car, along with a full mechanical service inc. belts, tensioners etc. at a Porsche specialist.
Due to being garaged for most of its life the interior is in great condition and everything works including the original Kenwood stereo and digital clock. In the boot is the sunroof bag, unused spare, tool roll and compressor.
I haven't had to get my hands dirty much, mostly cleaning and replacing a few blown dash bulbs. It has taken a while to get used to after the FWD Golf but it has really grown on me. It's actually more economical and uses no oil nor leaks any.
The only issues I have had are the heater constantly blowing hot from all vents (I checked the cable clips and then changed the electronic control unit but no joy so I will look at the HVAC system next). The driver’s side main beam has recently failed and this appears to be down to a cracked wire in the loom.
I had a new graduated tint windscreen fitted last September and replaced the outer seal and the scuttle trim at the same time.
The exhaust is getting a bit rusty so I have bought a full Dansk stainless system which will be fitted soon. I have also purchased a throttle cam, K&N filter and a period Momo Cavallino steering wheel as I don’t like the feel of the standard wheel, preferring a thicker rim.
