figured i'd better do a "hi its me!" thread with some pics..

Hi !

bit of a random porsche history ... first car i drove after passing my test was a 1987 911 targa 3.2 supersport in guards red (not mine obviously) proceeded to spin it two or three times during that year (and a daimler.. and an elise.. ) thankfully without doing any damage..

moved to the alps and decided i wanted a cheap, well built, good handling, RWD car for alpine snow fun :) so bought my first porsche ... a B reg 924 lux in black .. with a scabby interior and a dented wing, all for £750 ! loved it .. it didnt seem to mind the cold, and the colway remoulds were that good on snow/ice that i never got round to buying snow tyres..

it tried to kill me a number of times.. like the alternator earth falling off.. in a congested UPHILL motorway tunnel outside geneva .. wanna push a car up the middle of a busy motorway tunnel ? no .. me neither ..

but took me round france, belgium, switzerland, germany, holland, and back to blighty looking no worse than it had 9 months previously having received cock all maintenance .. even put 140mph on the clock on a long downhill french peage (ok, so the tyres were lower profile than stock .. but still, thats FAST in a 924, almost 7500rpm too iirc, lol)

then i crashed it (lightly).. assumed it would be written off and taken away. So bought another one !

it was white with a brown interior and no sunroof, also B reg. didnt like it.

got the black one back, fitted a second hand wing and front bumper for £70.. did some panel beating to make the other side match .. painted it satin black all over, with a kawasaki green bonnet stripe and white squares on the doors ! then fitted some 17" rims :)

sold the white one for buttons as i'd been robbing little bits off it, and the tax/test was up.

then a month or so ago a cheap black C plate 944 popped up on ebay.. so bought that and (sadly) the 924 went off to be scrapped (everything, like EVERYTHING needed doing after nigh on 3 years of abuse, and realistically.. it just wasnt economically viable. Shell was good, that was about it though, tried twice to shift it on ebay.. no joy..)

and thats that !

after much swearing a few skinned knuckles, a lot of coffee, some brake discs, wheel bearings, tyres and fettling later.. she's mot'd and on the road for about £1200 all in .. now.. just geometry and belts to do ! (and maybe a v8)

Ttfn !

I’m a big fan of the black on black. Just sold my ’87 944 to a guy who put black cookie cutters on it within an hour of buying!

Porsche A1 Black is an interesting colour. Apparantly is a pure black made up of a single pigmant!

:D

I do like black cars, the 944's paint however is a "not particularly thorough or good" respray which means its a case of re-doing all of it or living with it as-is due to the impossibility of matching the paint (its metallic although that doesnt show in the pic) the wheels too.. halfords rattle cans rather than a real refurb.. (you can see the over-spray on the tyes if you look closely) if i wash them the insides are still silver !

If it turns into a "keeper" and i start spending on the engine/suspension.. i'll respray it too, and get some 17" rims :)

the general plan is either

A) v8 engine, grp wings, s2/turbo/cgt frontend, coil overs, big brakes, bigger wheels

B) just run it, and get some wheels when ive worn out the tyres on the cookie cutters.

depends how busy i am with other stuff as to which way it goes.

A. sounds interesting! But providing a 944 gets looked after I'm happy with either.

would be a giggle thats for sure ..

some friends of mine who like shoehorning v8's into stuff keep on at me to do it.. and its part of the reason the 924 went, as to do it properly (safely) the entire running gear needs updating to 944 (or 924S) spec.. so it makes more sense to start with all of that in place. Been offered the engine, so its just down to time and motivation.
