Dan,
take Pauls advice and head west to Northway and 911 Virgin

We have our monthly meeting not too far from both, so if you were to go see either of them on tuesday 2nd, you could pop along to us in the evening.
also im possibly free in the daytimes and happy to come along with you

Ive only driven a 997 C2S, it was just for one day, on wet and muddy country lanes. Not once did I ever feel like a needed 4wd
maybe I wasn't trying hard enough :x
if it was me id go for a C2S manual but if a good C4 came along, I'd happily have that.

If you are flexible with spec and colour, you'll find one fairly quickly.

Jason,

I will for sure get in tou8ch with both as I really do want to talk my options over and test drive prior to purchase. You mentioned you have your monthly meet up soon, is that at Ace Cafe? Would be great to meet up with other enthusiasts/owners and have a look first hand the cars on show.

I have not yet got my membership pack as I only joined 2 days ago but I assume it will be with me fairly shortly.

Thanks for the advise.

Dan

Not the Ace, we meet near maidenhead.
on your way back from Northway

They have a C2S in at your price level but no sports exhaust

Yes, I wouldn't be confident recommending after a couple of enquiries when I was buying a few years back. Google will tell you more.

Dan go and have a look at Hendon but don't buy. I bought from an almost identical 'specialise in everything' dealer and ended up with massive bills that would've been avoided had I bought from a respected Porsche (only) Indie. Having saved for 3 years don't risk turning the dream into a nightmare and buy from a top notch Porsche specialist or from someone on here. Trust me, ya don't want to get it wrong like I did.

There, said my bit lol. Good luck.

Just do a Google search for HWM. It'll tell you all you need to know. Run, Forrest, run...

Portiacraft would be worth looking at in Mill Hill. Normally a good selection of 911 for your indulgence.

Thanks guys for the welcome. Having began to look into buying one of these 997's it became apparent that I had to choose carefully to fully appreciate the legend that is 911. I thought just looking for a Cerrara was simple, but you have Carrera S, S2 S4 and the then you have the Chrono, tip etc etc......and also whether its manual or auto....my gosh this took me by surprise.

Having visited the Porsche West London to see the varied types at close hand it became apparent that the decision was not easy. I will need a few test drives and research (which I enjoy) to make the best decision.

How did you guys choose your favorite Porsche?

By the way, what is IMS.....it is something that has been mentioned as a major issue on 911's?

Dan

you dont want to choose the way I did. I read up about them all. I worked out what I wanted. I carefully researched. I got impatient. I bought a completely different car on impulse without having test driven it.

I am very happy with the car ;-p

Get a 111 point pre-purchase-inspection if you don't buy from an official porsche center (OPC), and at least consider getting an OPC warranty on it. It cost me a grand extra to do that, but the peace of mind is invaluable - especially if you're going for an IMS bore-scoring possible engine.

Hi all,

I wish to revive this thread- as a year ago I was looking for a 997 I actually ended up getting a Boxster 987 (2.7 manual) and can say that I truly do not regret the decision. I am now on the lookout again for a 997 as it is still the dream for me. Anyone know of any goods ones for the 25k mark. Must be Tip though as the Mrs wishes to drive it too.

Let me know guys.

Dan
