Hi All, joined the forum a couple of days ago and thought I’d better introduce myself.

My name is Stuart Morrison (in case you hadn’t already worked that one out), I live in Redditch, Worcestershire and I drive a silver 2.5 litre, 2 seater…….sadly that’s where the similarities between a Boxster and my L200 pick-up end! I also drive a Mini Cooper S.

So, not a Porsche owner yet but hoping to change all that later in the year. However I’ve been a Porsche enthusiast since 1977 (aged 11) when a mate had this new Scalextric car called a Porsche 911 Turbo, I’d never heard of them before and even though it was only a toy it looked ace, especially in martini colours and I got the bug.

Then in 1978 the NEC hosted their first motor show, I went with my Dad and Brother, every time we got split up Dad would just head back to the Porsche stand and there I was! (ok, I admit to spending a lot of time on the Morgan stand as well but the attraction was short lived).

Anyway what of Porsche ownership? I’ve got several ideas, safest of which is instead of changing the Mini for another brand new car go for an early 987 Boxster for the same money, except I’m getting some (a lot of) resistance from the better half and she drives the car more than me at the moment!

Other ideas include a cheap 964 but some stories I’ve read of maintenance costs are scaring me to death and even the cheapest may be a little to expensive just to buy as a third vehicle to play about with. An early 986 Boxster again as a third car is a possibility or a 996 as a replacement for the Mini, I would have concerns that this may be a little to old to use as an everyday car though it would be more practical having bit of room in the back.

That’s me done, sorry if I sent you all to sleep!

Stu.

Hi Stu,

Why not pop along and see us on club night at the Red Lion P.H. at Earlswood Lakes

We meet there on the second Monday of every month from 1930 hours till late.

Usually plenty of cars to see, especially if the weather is fine and fine people to chat to.

Just along the road from where you live, see you there on Sept. 8th!?

Hi Stuart and welcome! My first Porsche was a scalextric as well(550 spyder) and Ive been a Porsche fan ever since.964s are great cars but a cheap one is not a good idea. They are one of the most expensive 911s to run and maintain and a cheap one wont have had that level of maintenance and therefore may have hidden problems.A 3.2 Carrera or 3.0 sc would be a better bet.Simpler and less to go wrong. If you pay the price for a good one of these theres no reason why they should be any less reliable than a modern car, many Tipec members use their cars daily.Best advice is go along and see Mymerak at the next meeting and talk to members about their cars.At a typical Tipec meeting there will be a variety of Porsches, front, mid, rear engined ,water or air cooled with all their enthusiastic owners.Oh and take your better half with you.Mine comes to all our meetings and the club is just as much about families as it is about us tyre kickers! Good luck.Regards John. :)

I had a black one with light up headlights and the mahoosive whale tail spoiler. I remember the back end coming out very often on that one :)

Scalextrics systems always end up in the loft or garage.
Mine is in full working order but as it's only a few years old the cars are german tourers. far too big and heavy for fast racing. Get thrashed by everything else

I believe the South East crowd will be over to Kent for some scalextrics action in the winter months?
