hehe well I did used to play a fair bit of online gaming....what game was it? (I think you're safe as I've never headed up a guild)

Game was Jumpgate, a space based MMO, pre EVE.

Anyway, welcome, there seems to be an influx of white 944 owners at the moment :)

I remember jumpgate but only played it a couple of times so - not me.

and there aren't many cars which look good in white imo but the 944 is definitely one of them (countach is another but didn't quite have the spare change to afford one of those..)

picked up my first porsche yesterday.
Still trying to figure out why I waited so long before buying one - I'm over the moon. Speed is quick enough to be exciting and handling is simply lovely. I keep going out to take it round the block one more time.

:)

There are two minor niggles -

Niggle 1 - paint work on sills is bubbling all the way along (see pic below) - can anyone advise as to the best option to sort this (I'm pretty raw when it comes to working on cars so apologies for the dumb question).

paint issues on sill (ok so you can see it had been raining as well but the bubbling is still clear underneath):

Niggle 2 -there's a weird scraping noise coming from the steering column. Sounds literally like a piece of paper is caught inside and is catching when you turn the wheel. I'm about to start taking it apart to find out why but am waiting for workshop manuals to download! If anyone picks this up in the meantime and can tell me what on earth it is that would be great!

bubbling is due to the sill extensions being a water trap, possibly get away with a sand down and rust treat then spray, otherwise if its too bad new sills, and possibly inners too.
scraping could be engine mounts collapsed and steering shaft hitting exhaust manifold/downpipe.
sorry to be the bearer of above news, if you bought from a dealer may have some comeback

thanks for the advice - much appreciated

re the engine mount - any pointers on how to check for this? is it easy to see or do I need to put it in to someone competent to get it checked :)

if you look you'll see the steering shaft touching against the manifold/downpipe, i think also the bottom hose hits against the front chassis rail on the drivers side (rh drive)

update : scraping noise is apparently the horn contacts catching which sounds a damn site easier/cheaper to fix than the engine mount!

so I put it in to Elite Motor Tune in Northampton - chap called Ben was really helpful - to get it checked over and give me the list of things wrong with it. Given that it came off ebay I wasn't expecting to get away scot free and it sold for a pretty low price so....overall I'm still very pleased, just a little sore in the wallet.

Here's the list in case anyone's interested:

Fuse gone in electric windows - on the way to the garage dammit!
Horn contacts scraping on steering wheel
Clutch slave cylinder and pipe leaks into starter motor
Rear drive shaft inner cv boot is split
Back plate behind hand brake needs replacing
Brake pipes need replacing
Fuel pipe has been replaced but is ok - just needs tidying up a bit
Oil leak from gearbox and diff - fairly minor
Both rear brake pad sensors need replacing

Charging me £1200 to sort that little lot out - might come down a bit as several jobs roll into one

Opinions appreciated - they were very helpful and patient on the phone but my knowledge and experience, particularly for this car is very low. Their rate is £65 per hour which to me is reasonable for a good garage. Parts-wise they were comparable to Porscheshop or slightly cheaper as they went through the quote with me item by item.
