hmm good to know - thanks - I've opted for an indie to keep the costs down a bit (particularly as some of the official porsche parts are extremely expensive) but I didn't realise their labour costs were that close.

I've never heard that Elite had any specific Porsche knowledge and that price of £1200 sounds a little high to me? I've not spent any time getting accurate parts prices but I think my guesses will be in the ballpark. Did you try RPM at Leighton Buzzard or Promax at MK who are Porsche specialists and charge circa £40/hr

Fuse gone in electric windows - Will take minutes to replace!
Horn contacts scraping on steering wheel - Will take minutes to readjust
Clutch slave cylinder and pipe leaks into starter motor - Parts £100, labour 1 hour
Rear drive shaft inner cv boot is split - Parts £20, labour 30 mins
Back plate behind hand brake needs replacing - Parts £10, labour 30 mins
Brake pipes need replacing - Parts £60, labour 2 hours
Fuel pipe has been replaced but is ok - just needs tidying up a bit
Oil leak from gearbox and diff - fairly minor
Both rear brake pad sensors need replacing Parts £20 labour minutes

>>Fuse gone in electric windows - Will take minutes to replace!
>>Horn contacts scraping on steering wheel - Will take minutes to readjust
Yeah they said this, including looking over the car and checking things will amount to a couple of hours labour

>>Clutch slave cylinder and pipe leaks into starter motor - Parts £100, labour 1 hour
matches their estimate

>>Rear drive shaft inner cv boot is split - Parts £20, labour 30 mins
hmm their saying this is a lot more (£117 total)

>>Back plate behind hand brake needs replacing - Parts £10, labour 30 mins
again a lot more (£125 total)

>>Brake pipes need replacing - Parts £60, labour 2 hours
about the same as their estimate

I'll give them a call now and see what they say - they're convenient to me as I live in town but if they're charging through the nose then I'll go to Promax. They've apparently done a lot of work on Porsches, specifically 944s when they first came out which is why I went to them...

They would be convenient for me too, but I've never heard them mentioned for Porsche in all the years I've lived here. Maybe I lead a sheltered life  If my guess prices were roughly similar to the one's quoted then where did the £1200 come from as I can only add it up to roughly £600.

I can see how an entire rear CV would be £135 if it's knackered but if it is just a split boot then they are available seperately for around £20

they've also included replacing the fuel pipe (which apparently is a time consuming job) as its been bodged to use a rubber pipe currently (total cost is just over £400 due to needing 5 hours for it and £100 in parts)

I questioned them on their prices based on your comments and he did say he'd managed to get some savings based on using Europarts but allowing in a couple of hours for initial diagnosis (inc changing the fuse and fixing the horn contacts) it was still coming out at about £1200

I have used them once before a long long time ago (8-9 years?) for an MR2 - I remember they were expensive but did a good job. But thats all I have to go on - certainly no porsche knowledge so I REALLY appreciate your comments!

spoke to promax and they said this sounds cheap to about right

their labour rates are slightly cheaper (but not by much - £49+vat)

they also said they hadn't heard of Elite doing much porsche work recently and that promax know the 944 better than anything else

so I got some servicing prices but I think unless their quote comes in significantly different I think I'm going to stick with Elite.

So for anyone who's interested, all the work is done barring changing the alarm

Ben from Elite put it up on a ramp and took me round all the work they've done and it looks like a nice clean tidy job, done on time and to the budget he quoted

Brake pipes (all bar one) were replaced with shiny copper pipes including one up under the wheel mount which hadn't been picked up previously but was completely rotten in parts
all other bits as previously mentioned and brake fluid replaced with silicone fluid

Also got chance to have a good look at the sills and the corners need a good scrub with a wirebrush/hammerite/waxoil but generally not too bad at all

Whilst I was there they had at least 6 other porsches in and apparently 20% of all they do is porsches.

Nothing else imminent needing doing apparently - next stop will probably be the rear shocks which have a little play in them and a few minor bits, but I'll leave that till after Christmas!

Depends which side of Northampton you are but i use Fred Cobby, Motawerk. He is based at Lodge Farm Saddington (07817 557451). Fred used to run workshops at Roger Clark Cars in Naseby (Porsche dealer) when garage closed he went on his own.You will not see many adverts for him as he tends to work on regulars and by word of mouth. I have been pleased with the service work on my Speedster. Worth getting a comparison for future work if you need any
