Not an ideal scenario, but I'm on my neighbouring region's e-mail list and maybe just including neighbouring ROs on the e-mails may be a half-way solution.

It's good to talk...............

That is what happens in the south. I think the overlap would be too difficult to do a country wide calendar.

A global calendar only works if the RO's keep it updated.

As most are not on the forum, not sure how that is going to work to be honest. We have a Regional page on the website for updating events and around 40% of those are not being used or out of date.

SYNN had published in AT that they were going to Harewood House today.

I quite agree, the easiest way is to read the adjacent regions RO reports.

What you are talking about keeps the RO's themselves informed.
However it is the members themselves that require the information and in a format that is easy to digest.

No, it is for the RO's to incorporate relevent info from adjacent regions into their calendar. I incorporate things like Goodwood FOS into mine from the SE but otherwise it is just for me & my ARO when organising. Why would I want my mailo out diary to include for example a Scottish or NE trip? It isn't rocket science to keep the regions landing pages updated but lots of ROs don't bother! So keeping a global diary up to date would be a nightmare!

Hi

What's the problem with R.O's talking to each other

What's the problem with R.O.'s e-mailing each other

What's the problem with R.O's keeping members informed

What's the problem with R.O.'s being on adjoining regional event notifications

Finally, for the benefit of all there is always the forum; a the web site that can be kept up to date as well as the R.O. reports at the rear of All Torque

This is not a pop at R.O's or members but serves to illustrate the fact that there is only so much that can be done and the law of diminishing returns applies

Keeping people informed is a responsibility on all of us; those that try to inform and those who wish to be informed.

It's the Regions that organise the events, so therefore it seems logical that it is the RO's that will need to communicate what is happening. On that basis a Global calendar will only work if the events are plugged into it.

I'm all for the freedom of information, at the moment we have 3 methods of communicating events, web page, forum and All Torque.

Some regions are brilliant and do a great job of letting the members know what they are up to, some could best be described as poor.

If someone has the definative answer then please share it.

Maybe if the country was split into 2 parts or 3 for the groups?
When we produced Club Torque there was an overall events calendar in each issue.
It was a pain to do and we had to badger the RO's but the members could see were the events were.
They did not have to trawl through every regions reports.
It was not as hard as it could have been as some regions 'appeared' to do nothing

Communications are a problem.
Often a region operates as its own little world and puts zip all in the magazine.
An example is that years ago when York region went very quiet.
Myself and the club secretary (Alan Wells) went along to their next meet to investigate.
We found a well attended meet with 16 members present out of 42 on the books.
They did everything by regional newsletter, phone and e-mail.

I would willingly produce a Northern callender and badger the RO's.

A few thoughts

If club office provided all RO's with an up to date list of RO email addresses in December each year , each RO could circulate their regional calendar of events when fixed early in Jan/Feb to all other RO's. Those regions stuggling to get a list together could "feed" off the lists received from others and possibly more multi region events would take place.
Each RO could also consider emailing details of any interesting events to their own region so members would be aware of what was going on elsewhere.

If all events lists were in word documents someone could collate all into a "master list" covering the country which could then be posted as a sticky in the events section. By so doing the RO's would be under a little pressure to get their events list sorted quickly but the upside would be the smaller regions would have more coverage and hopefully gain more visitors.

In terms of badgering those regions that seem inactive/ not using forums etc surely that is what the role of Group Directors is about?
I would assume that as an absolute minimum the Group Directors would visit all their regions at least once a year to touch base with the RO, ask if any support is needed etc and get some feedback from grass roots members in each region.

Just my two penneth

Paul

Hi

I much prefer this approach from Paul

The distinct advantage it has is that it generates a pro active approach on an inter personal basis

Just posting a global calendar is passive and passive approaches usually generate passive actions

Finally, before any passive or negative comments appear; I am not supporting this idea as the ARO for Central or because I see it as a simple way out for the committee

I think this is the best idea put forward so far, if members want to integrate further, that's why I prefer it.

This is how PCGB do it.
http://www.porscheclubgb.com/Events/Calendar.aspx

A member can see events a glance.
The events are listed similar to our old overall events calender in Club Torque.
Hyperlinks take you more detail or to the regional events list.

How about posting the upcoming events on the front page of the website. A regular update would keep the site refreshed for visitors.
I now its a bit of work but may pay dividends when possible new members are looking where to meet up!

Again - only works when updated. R8 (East Mids, my local) have no events listed whatsoever - none, nyadda, bu99er all.

Its sad but some regions operate in isolation and do not want mix with the main club.....
There are missing lots of great opertunities
