Hello Chaps.

I have been thinking about this a bit over the last few days and thought I would start a thread about it. I have looked back through the pages on this category of the forum and can’t see it having been brought up for discussion before, although I may be wrong. I’d also like to say that I hope I’m not standing on anyone’s toes or overstepping any boundaries with this thread.

Anyway! There is quite a large event held local to me called “Motors By The Moat” and it is held within the grounds of Leeds castle on the 12th May. I have been to the last two events and have thoroughly enjoyed the day. There seems to be a very wide selection of cars on show so there is bound to be something there for everyone.

I was looking at the registration form earlier today and saw that there was a club stand option for 10 or more cars and it got me thinking, would anyone here be interested in getting a club stand together?

Leeds castle is based on Maidstone and for your purposes of looking at travel time the post code is ME17 1PL.

A link to the Leeds Catalan is listed below. Following the “what’s on” option will show details for the event (direct link doesn’t seem to be working unfortunately) along with other information of the grounds.

http://www.LeedsCastle.co.uk

If you’ve never been to Leeds Castle it’s a pretty cool place for the family, kids as well. I have had an annual pass for the last few years and have always enjoyed it. The Fee is £10 per vehicle and everyone in the vehicle gets admission for that price. Included is access to all of the grounds including the castle and everything else that is there. There is a very large play area for the kids and pretty big maze that can consume a bit of time.

So, Motors By The Moat - 12th May.

If anyone is at all interested please could you register your interest below and if we get enough interest I will get the application form submitted.

If you could please copy the list and add your name, vehicle we can go from there.

Tomm

We attended this event a few years ago when it was run to raise money for a kids charity.

Sadly the high viz tabard wearing Marshall’s were just too officious and spoilt the event. Some spotty faced Herbert was trying to tell me how to park a group of cars, The rules on vehicle movement were a pain as well.

Not sure what is on the calendar for Kent Region for May, drop Paul a note a few of the guys might be up for it.

Thanks for that. When I last looked it was showing Saturday and Sunday as options on their booking form. I’ll update the tread and title to reflect this.

Thanks for the reply Sean and sorry to hear you’ve had a bit of a negative experience with them but thank you very much for bringing it up. A work colleague went to one a few years ago and said he had a bit of trouble with the Marshalls, however knowing how he goes about things I suspected he was possibly in the wrong. Hearing it for a second time does raise a bit of concern.

I will post up the vehicle movement restrictions for the event later today once I am home and edit that info into the main thread incase anyone is interested.

Thanks again.

Sean is spot on I am not sure whether I'd forgotten or wiped it from my memory!
Being told by a 14 year old with radio & said hi-vis vest that you can't move cars because the noise will upset the wild life & birds. When not 200 yards away is a Navy Kestrel helicopter which has obviously been flown in. When I pointed this out said 14 year old got very excited & said we'd be banned from next years event.... ummmm..
We did get some good photos of Martins 996 though! I'll find them later & post a few.

Ironically this was the exact same case as what my colleague was telling me. If I remember correctly a club member had to leave under emergency circumstances and was told that a ban would be enforced if he left. Obviously the situation was far more important and the club left and was subsequently banned.

Seems a shame that their management of the event is clearly having a negative effect on people because as a spectator the last two years I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Apart from that very brief run in with a marshal (I kid you not! Seems to be a Trent here).

Seems odd to say that it will disturb the wildlife, do they all bugger of at 4:30 then so everyone can go home?

I think we should move on from prior experiences.

A few of us are having a tyre kicking session at Wombat Wrapping in Tonbridge on the 17th March, come and say hello if you are about. :)

No issue if you pop up and say hello anyways. :)
