That is correct, the total amount donated 2007 and 2008. This is why I think an auction of the higher value items may give a better result. In fact Brett said he would have bid £250 for one of the prizes last year: I won Triumph stuff and had to find a Stag owner!

OK the raffle was fun but did people get what they wanted?

:D

Hi All,
Will the Dorset region of PCGB members be able attend this event again this year? Those of us who attended previous years enjoyed ourselves and are always keen to support charitable events.
By coincidence we have another event on the same day at Sparkford in aid of the Air Ambulance but I'm sure we could manage to divide our loyalties.

PCGB are very welcome.

Please give me an indication of numbers of mouths for the catering.

Do remember to bring plenty of cash in case there is anything in the auction you fancy. There will be great bargains.

Thanks for that. We have our monthly meet on the 16th June, so will know rough numbers after that.

none o my business anymore but i really dont like auctions, it means that those with money always get the "bargains" and ordinary skint members dont really get a look in. I know they (auctions)may raise more money but they are "exclusive"

Cheers

Gordon

The idea is to raise a few pounds for the childrens hospice.

I will be organising a trip to Julia's House in September if you would like to come along.

ah the idea is a club fun day for all members, where everyone has a chance to win something, the money for charity is not the prima facea reason for the prizes it is a product of the funday. What i am saying is the prizes are then equal for all members/atendees and the charity still benefits!!

Hi Gordon :)

I tend to agree with you on this....

Perfect example is last years winner of the £500 Toyo tyres voucher you got for us....

The young lad who won it even though he didn't have a car was chuffed to bits when he won....

Now I don`t think he could afford many raffle tickets and I am certain he could NEVER have bid in an auction....but he bought a couple of tickets for charity and won and good on him....

I also won a fair few prizes last year lol....but I usually do....but thats because I buy a LOT of raffle tickets at any charity event....that Porsche Club of Western Australia is still my favourite winter jacket :)

I think we raise money either way for the charity, but the raffle is generally more fun and it does not exclude anyone...

The extreme example of the auction is.....imagine that I bid and won EVERY single item...yes the charity would make a couple of thousand I imagine, but I doubt others would consider it fun .... ?

All the best Brett :)

Hi :)

Just had another thought to possibly resolve this....

How about 50/50....

We put all the prizes on pieces of paper....and someone pulls out 50% of them at random.....to be auctioned......therefore not skimming the best prizes for the auction, but a fair 50% each for both auction and raffle... ?????????

All the best Brett :)

The charity auction stays. Anything else is negotiable with the members.

nick,

Whichever way you want to go is ok with me, like I say I tend to prefer the other way for the reasons I have given. I also found iIcould entice people to the do with the promise of tippety top raffle tickets.

Even the kid who won the tyres was pleased and he sold them to someone for 300 quid so he got something and someone else got a bargain. I will spend a tenner on the raffle but I wont if all I can win is the cheap stuff and the "bargains" go to those with more spending power than me. Like I say it feels a bit more democratic a way of doing to me. I know how hard it is to get the prizes by the way so if you want to maximise the charity money thats ok, I always wanted to maximise the enjoyment/experience of the members, the charity although important was secondary.Gordon
