My car is heading back for the road in the coming weeks and I need insurance. Just been on to CVI the current insurer and due to the increased agreed valuation by two independents their underwriter has declined to quote. The valuations received are 50% higher than CVI's maximum but inline with other cars on the open European market.

I don't fit the Hagerty criteria due to the car not being standard will in the short term not be garaged at my address, or if garaged it is not at my address!

So criteria is

classic status, limited miles, second car, declared modifications
track day cover ideally but not essential
strong agreed valuation based on two independent values and European market place values
parked on secured driveway and disabled

So where now? I don't want to spend 30-45 minutes on the phone at each insurer to find they won't cover. Any good speciality insurers of modified and out of the norm cars without strong premiums?

Thanks Jim and RH

I have now secured a quote with Heritage by having to park the car overnight in my parents garage 3 miles away rather than being on my drive. Premium unfortunately 50% higher than was being paid with CVI and I have to 'visit' the car weekly :D

Included my valuation expectation and modifications
Track day cover and certain competitive events with additional premium

More searching .......

Steve,

You could try A plan very competitive, only downside is they don't do trackday cover so may not suit you?

944 - agreed value on my say so of £5k / garaged £99

I am still with Lancaster, having been with Hagerty for a number of years, until they changed there portfolio criteria. Been very happy with Lancaster also, but my renewal is also coming up, so we shall see :?

I PM'd him with Asset Trust. I was their first TIPEC customer & have got the Boxster renewal down to £370 or so, I paid £800 last year with Adrian Flux & they wanted £797 this year for a renewal. Part of the problem stems from the fact that the Boxster is parked on a driveway not garaged.

I would 2nd Peter D James I have been with them the last few years for my tastefully tweaked 944 Turbo on agreed value (& unlimited mileage!)

Having been frustrated with Telephone "discussions" for getting Insurance I created a text file with all the details the insurers were asking then sent an e-mail with the file contents to a dozen or so companies, the ones that didn't reply obviously didn't get my business.
It was well worth the effort and resulted in Peter D James getting and retaining my business.
(I update the file annually and send out a few e-mail just to ensure I'm still getting a good deal). HTH
