Post subject:  Engine bay hoses and black plastic and inlet manifold

Hi, will be trying to clean up the dusty/dirty engine bay of my 1989 944S2, my query is for some advice about what I could use on the black plastics and hoses in the engine bay to help clean them up and treat/protect them a bit in the future.

I know there will be lots of favourites, but wanted to make sure I didn't deteriorate the rubber or plastics, etc. if I used something like Megauiars Ultimate black on the hoses / plastics in the engine bay, or Poorboys Natural Look (which I believe is water based, so perhaps kinder to the hoses?).

My other query would be about the inlet manifold and other similar metal parts, would that need some sort of protectant on it after it's been degreased / metal brushed?

This is not about concourse finish, more about cleaning up an old engine bay and trying to protect what's there whilst I'm at it.

Thanks

I've always used autoglym vinyl & rubber care which I either simply spray on a leave or apply with a cloth. Works well, isn't sticky so wont attract dust and makes everything black and shiny.

I use the Meguiars Trim Detailer on my exterior and engine rubber components. Use very sparingly and a bottle will last you years. Not sticky and drys matt.
