Have a 911 targa 1989 velvet red.
has stone chips in the usual places (bonnet, wing mirrors, headlight surrounds).

Does anyone have any experience of using CHIPEX ?

User reviews I have found on the web are mixed ... from delighted to rubbish...

Does anyone on here have any experience of this product.

Any advice or comments appreciated

I will post pics of my experiences when I get round to doing it.

cheers
Peter

Not tried it but intrested to see how good the match is as red is a horrible colour to match (some of reviews do say it works better on darker cars but says they will colour match your paint if you send them trim part etc) & your before/after pics as my Boxster has lot's chips on front! Price doesn't look bad from £30 to £40 depending on what kit you buy so worth a go at that money. Its not going to be a perfect repair but certainly better than the shot blasted look most of our cars front ends get. I think I would look at it as a temprary repair.

With any paint work patience is the key so on deeper chips build your layers up gradually.

My car colour (L39C Midnight Blue) isn't listed though......but they can sort that.

I haven't tried it but as Chris said, it takes time.
All results of any paintwork are mostly down to quality of the person as well as the product.

Many of us on here will have done stone chip repairs.
I would get a full tin of paint made up for you from your local auto paint suppliers
firstly clean the chips of dirt, polish etc a proper paint degreaser and cocktail sticks are good here.
the nusing either cocktail sticks or a very fine artists brush (buy a few), shake can for 5 mins and spray into the cap or similar without a hole in.
This should be nice and thin (it will thicken as it dries, if it dies throw away and use new)
then put tiny amounts onto the chips, allow to dry between building up layers. your final layer will be higher than the rest of the paintwork

Then using something like these

and the little daisys (abrasive paper) you can rub down the spots
The panel would then need to be polished using a DA polisher or similar

There is lots of info (possibly too much) on Detailing world
Stone chips

Or just get it resprayed :D

∆∆ listen to him. I do that for scratches and chips, level out with 1500 wet paper and polish out with farcela G3 with a buffer. Completely invisible.

Or just leave covered in dirt and you'll never see them

Thanks for your replies

Jason
the kit you show and the kit I got from Chipex look sort of the same and
the method sounds about the same.
Will post some pics when I get time to start this job
thanks

I guess so, only tried it on myself so far.

I think the rubbing up the wrong way compound is the one for the wife :D

I got a Chipex kit for my 968 and I have to say it didn't really live up to expectations.

It was difficult to apply consistently and didn't really fill the chips effectively. Maybe some one with more patience might get better results...

The colour match was good, though, but the gloss finish wasn't as good as the original paintwork...

So on the whole, I'd give it a miss...
