One of the locking Porsche wheel nut covers on my 968 appears to have failed. When I insert the key in it the key turns fine but doesn't seem to release the mechanism so I can't get the nut cover off. Ideas anyone apart from a pair of pliers and wrenching the cover off? TIA.

Hi
I brought my 944 without the wheel nut key so I rang Dynomec and they gave me the name of a local guy who removed all 4 nuts in about 5 mins for £15 all Tel: (+44) 01977 520 666 ring after 1.00pm as the lady with the list of contracts only works part time

regards Ken

Don't destroy the wheel nut, I just had to buy a set from USA, they are getting rare that early type.

I suspect your probably running them without the dust caps? They can still be bought by the way, they are there to keep dust, dirt and water out of the lock.

Get a bit of oil in to the lock, then work the key in and out a few times.

Hold the spinning outer cover with fingers and turn the key, then pull the whole lot off, it should now just pull off, if it isn't spinning it's probably seized on, gently pulling/twisting with pliers having protected the cover will usually release it.
