Lucas Yuasa, once had the liecence to make (label up it's own batteries as) Varta batteries. It's all badge enginering.

Some other brands that they were (maybe still are) labeling up are Oldham, Yuasa, J.C.B., Crompton, Halfords, Honda, Toyota, LandRover, Unipart, Lucas, Tungsten, Renault, Rover, Foden, Motorworld, Nissan, etc, etc.

You could buy a battery for a LandRover from Halfords for about £70 cheaper than if you bought a genuine LandRover parts battery from LandRover, yet it was exactly the same battery, with the same guarantee, just with different labels stuck to it. Infact, if we ever ran out of one brand for an order, we would strip the labels off other batteries and relabel them as we needed.

Usually the bigger the battery, the better it is. But it's all down to how many plates its got to what power it will produce. The difference in cost, is just the amount of guarentee it has. A 075 is most proberbly the one you need, but you could maybe get away with a 065. Either way they should have about the same dimentions.

As I posted earlier, be careful the battery Halfords list for the Lux doesn't fit! As it's too tall by about 5-10mm AMHIK! The same battery is listed for the S2 & 968, not sure whther it fits those.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a Halfords trade card … word of the agreement with TIPEC definitely didn’t spread this far north!

I’ve got a good battery charger, but have to remove the battery and take it upstairs to the flat to use the thing, as there’s no power sockets in my garage. One of those solar powered conditioners I’ve seen mentioned elsewhere might be worth a look … if they have very long leads so that I could nail one up near the garage doors.

As for battery size/shape, I know the two sizes I already have fit the 944 perfectly - in the rear cubby battery mount, there are two holes you can use for screwing in the retaining clip/plate: One to suit each of the two battery sizes I currently have. They’re both the same height and width, only differing in length.

had to replace mine recently, luckily under warranty, old one fitted the smaller hole, new one fitted the larger hole, got the larger battery cos no smaller in stock :wink:

Had to replace my battery today..................

Was out last night and battery died - RAC tested, dead cell but got me home :crybaby: .

Today, in my rush to get my car back on the road, I popped to Halfrauds to get one - they fit them too (it says so, and when I asked they said so too). So I struggled to get my car started to take to Halfrauds, and when I got there, switched off, got battery, they then refused to fit!!! Said "It's a Porsche (well yes!!! they knew that at lunchtime), so we dont do them - too many electrics". I managed to point out the error of their ways, and a manager-type guy fitted it.

I forgot all about the Halfrauds card, so I guess I'm too late to save money now (?).

ALSO................my car is ever-so-very quiet now. Dunno what the radio code is :( . Anyone got any ideas??

Halfords should have used a battery maintainer when they swapped it for this exact reason :roll:
I've got one here but it is a bit late now :mrgreen:

Yup one here on E Bay, the same as I have. 350156846442
They have a PP3 type battery in& plug into the cigar lighter & keep the radio memory & alarm alive whilst the battery is disconnected.
I used one on mine not because of the radio which doesn't have a code but my cranky Italian Cat 1 alarm which is now 17 years old & if it died I'd be knackered!
Things like this is why I'm VERY careful of letting muppets work on my car!

Well..................update.

I searched high and low for my radio code card, browsed the t'interweb, contemplated paying someone, then thought I may as well pay the OPC.............so I rang them at lunch.

They asked my reg, looked on their computer and gave me my radio code over the 'phone!! Cost? £0.00, as OPC Leicester's Martyn said - "Just a thank you will do". Me? Happy Bunny. :D
