 Post subject: alarm problems (laserline 996 V3)

my battery went flat whilst i was faffing around trying to fix my sunroof :shock:

i didn't realise and tried to start the car. the starter motor drew all the power remaining and the alarm armed itself and started going mental.

when i dissarmed it , the led flashes 5 times, which means it thinks someone tried to hotwire the car.

battery is all charged up again now but the alarm is still playing up. when i arm it, after it locks the doors it beeps three times. a few minutes later it starts going off :evil:

the alarm has been faultless until now... any advice on how to sort this out?

I'd say to try two things...

Firstly unlock the door and turn the alarm off (if it will turn off) and disconnect the battery and leave it several minutes to recover. Then reconnect the battery, close the doors and set the alarm. Often alarms are trying to work out if something has changed since the last power loss from battery. If you effectively repeat what you did before then it might decide nothing has changed and recover.

If that doesn't work, see if you have an alarm key or fob which fits the control box (usually situated under in the bonnet near the fuse box or in a lockable place. In a 996 I'd imagine they'd put that in the front boot under the carpet bolted to the back middle between the windscreen wipers or hidden in a cubbyhole somewhere in the front. The boxes are rarely weatherproofed, so tend to be in dry accessible places, so I doubt it'd be near the horn in the engine bay.

Sometimes alarms can have a reset via the fob, pressing lock/unlock for 10-30s might activate this.

Other than that, I'd say it might be worth looking at the various sensors to see if they have some kind of tamper feature which may have been activated. Open all the windows, all the doors, boot, bonnet, clean all the battery terminals and regrease and look for any loose wires.

Hi Rick.
I think 3 beeps on a Laserline is a dodgy sensor; ie door boot or bonnet.
Mine did the same and it was a dirty door switch.
Does the interior light ever flicker or not come on?

funny you should mention that daz! only last night i was out for a drive and the cabin light came on randomly!

will check door switches.
