Post subject:  Early 944 Taillight & Sidelight Problems, Simple poss fix.

For a fewdays now id been scratching my head about a weird problem ive had with my early 944, the taillights stopped working and the front left side light stopped working. Did the obvious changed the fuse, checked the bulb, No luck,

Thankfully the guys here gave me some great advice and got me started on the fix.

1) disconnected battery.
2) Clean any accessible or visible earth's with emery sticks (sandpaper lolly sticks) or sandpaper,
3) lower the fusebox, check all relays are secure, all plugs are plugged in,
4) remove each fuse 1x1 and emery cloth the tips and the connectors on the fuse box and replace in correct spot
5) head to the back of the car, under the carpet you can get at the rear lights, remove the back panel by unscrewing the white fixing.
6) disconnect the white round plug and head indoors, clean the pins on the male plug with electrical cleaner and emery stick cut in to thin strips.
7) gently separate the metal from the plastic back by releasing the 3 plastic clips gently. on the back remove each spade connector in turn and clean each connector surface, re-connect plugs.
8) remove each bulb one by one and clean the bulb contact and the side connectors in the socket, replace bulb and repeat for all bulbs.
9) check everything is secure and fit back to plastic,
10) reconnect the white plugs and put the cluster away,
11) repeat with other side,
12)reconnect battery
13)ignition on and test,

hopefully all is well again. After doing this i solved a few electrical gremlins I was having, such as boot light started working as wel and ashtray light, both number plate lights worked instead of just one, and the interior map light came on.

Should only take about an hour of your time and may just save you quite a few quid at the auto electricians or Porsche specialist.

Mark. :D
