I have just bought this excellent discreet bluetooth handsfree kit, with a stereo aux out to the headunit, and dedicated buttons. This is perfect for what I needed, as it can take phone calls, and play music from my phone. The cigarette lighter plug is also very small and the wires are tiny, so it doesn't get in the way of anything.

However, my cigarette lighter socket is always live, even with the key removed, which means that it has a constant attention-seeking blue flashing LED, it's always sending out bluetooth signals, and taking some draw from the battery (albeit small).

So, do all 944's behave this way? Mine is a square dash.

Is anyone here electrically-savvy enough to know how to wire the cigarette lighter socket through the ignition switch, or a point on the fuse box where I could wire the handsfree power directly, but still ignition switched?

If not, I may have to hack the power plug on the handsfree and fit a switch.

AFAIK All 944 ciggie lighters are continuously live. Later Porsches (986) are off with ignition off & later still went back to continuously live.

Thanks everyone. Now I need an electrical expert to find a switched live, or invent a relay system for the existing socket.

My 944 S2 (1990) socket is ignition switched, not permanently live.

Both of my 944s were the same as Glenn's.

Thanks for all the responses. My auto-electrician installed an ignition-switched secondary cigarette lighter under the glovebox. I now have both: best of both worlds.
