I know most people use JBL's which fit easily but if they will fit these Pioneers are slightly dearer but appear to be very good quality.

Also considering Boston S75, anyone tried those?

Yes. I have a pair in the doors of my 944. But...
The plastic grilles from the early cars are just flush mounted to the door card. These look like a row of holes like a connect-4 game! With these speakers, the grilles bow out in the middles.

I believe the later cars had grilles that stand proud of the door card just a few mm with a nice fine mesh grille cover. These give a bit more clearance, but I haven't had the chance to try this myself.

I would describe these speakers as clear and delicate, but they still sound like very small speakers. Very directional, and no bass that you would ever feel, although it's all there.

I'm hoping when I take apart the rear panels, I can do some modifying and stick a pair of round 5" or 6" speakers. Currently, I just have the stock ones, which are all but turned off.

Thanks for the reply. Mine is a 1989 2.7 but it too has just a plastic grille flush with the door card. I may just go with the JBL GTO's in that case as they gave quite a good 'deep' sound for their size on my 968 and of course fit perfectly. Just fancied trying something different but probably best to stay with the tried and trusted solution.
