I'm not sure if this is a 914 made to look like a Ford Probe or a Ford Probe that's trying to be a 914? I quite like it though. (Except for the rear spoiler.)

They say it's a Ford Probe made to look like a 911, but it doesn't look anything like a 911.

What do you all think?

Looks pretty good to me.

I think there are echoes of the slantnose 911s in it.

I think it says it all when so many Probe owners are trying to make them look like something else :)

Would you want to drive something named after an aliens favourite past time????? :?

The wind screen, doors, hood, tail lights, boot lid, targa roof, roll bar and quarter lights all seem to be from a 914. I would guess its more 914 than Probe. I think only the bumpers are Probe, unless there is a Probe engine in there.

Just to clarify:

I bought this car last spring. My kid ran across this picture and I thought I would clarify even though it's an OLD thread.

Car is indeed a 1974 914 with ford probe front and back bumpers. Not the way I would have built the car but I like it.

At the time of this picture the car had a 360 dodge V8 in it, with the rad in the front. The previous owner/builder of the car is a body man, did a great job. All the panels/fender flairs etc. are steel other than the bumpers. The only panels that are stock are the roof and the front hood.

Before I bought it he put the original 2 L engine back in, with twin carbs instead of the fuel injection though. He told me too much weight, car wouldn't handle worth a darn but would go like stink in a straight line. Not a porsche, right? the other reason I suspect he changed back is that he ran the rad pipes through the heat duct and up into the car before the gas tank, and cut 2 tubes straight through the gas tank to get them to the front. I suspect he had vapour lock problems when the car warmed up.

Car still looks that good.. Had to do some maintenance over last summer but it's all good now. Got it out for the summer last weekend.
