I think Hels is still a viewer here if not a TIPEC member anymore. I'm sure her radar will have found it!

Hmmm. Only suitable for post-1963 cars. 356 production ended in ’65. That plate is more likely to be of interest to owners of replicas, I think.

Isn't the relavent date the date of first registration in the UK and not the date of manufacture? Therefore if the car was imported into the UK after 1963, would the plate then be OK?

don't think this is the point, the numbering on the plate refers to a particular model of 356 which were manufactured during a specific time frame, therefore not of interest to all 356 owners, particularly at this price.

You can put any numberplate on your car as long as it predates the vehicle, only becomes an issue if it makes the vehicle appear newer than it is. Imported cars that carry number plates issued by DVLA on importation, assuming they are used cars will by default still carry UK numbers which reflect their manufacture date

I'm sure Sam is right on that one.

In 'the old days' when you imported a vehicle it got whatever that year's reg was. I brought my 1979 Triumph Spitfire back from Germany in December 1981 and the car got an X plate - SPC 104X actually. It made the car look newer than it was - which isn't allowed nowadays.

Correct, my car was built in 1996 and imported into the UK in 2000 carries a P plate.
