My near side fan on my 987.1 Cayman seems to have stopped running, the offside fan runs flat out when the car is up to temp, and runs on/off when driving the car. The failed fan seems to be free, not seezed up in any way, are they independently fused? Can’t see any details in the fuse board. |

Assuming it is the same as the 986.1 There are two fans (in the front) and 4 fuses & relays. The relays trigger low/high speed & use a resistor at the bottom of the fan module (in the wet & muck!) to get low speed. High speed obviously bypasses the resistor. A quick check is to put the A/C on. If the fans run full pelt then it points towards the low speed relay or fuse/resistor for low speed. NOTE. it is triggered from the DME (engine management) although a temp sensor feeds the DME elsewhere the DME tells the fans to run & at what speed. The sensor doesn't direct connect to the fans. If you know someone with a PWIS (Porsche workshop diagnostic tool) that can cycle & test the fans. The whole thing is a major PITA, AMHIK! |
