Hi everyone, I am new to this forum so apologies in advance if this is posted in the wrong place. I would just like to ask those who are a lot more knowledgable than me about what might have caused the breakdown of my Boxster today.

I drove it with no faults for approximately one and a half hours today. Just as I was coming home I stopped at the local supermarket. on leaving, having started up fine I got round to the exit of the car park when the car coughed, spluttered and shuddered to a stop. At which point, it would not start again. The fuel gauge was low but the fuel low light was not on. On turning the key the engine turns over fine, as per normal but there's no fire. I felt it was trying but had no fuel so I tried using a jerry can and filled up some petrol. There's no leaks and on trying once more again the same issue, but this time it started but ran very rough and barely held idle. At this point I turned it off and got a tow! Does anyone have any thoughts? I am down the lines of a fuel problem...maybe filter or a spark failure but I fear it could be something more serious. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? There's no leaks with any form of fluid and no smoke or fumes of any description. Also I live it Dubai where the temperature is very hot around 40 degrees at he moment. Thanks for any help in advance!

Need to get the fault codes read
could be a crankshaft sensor but it could also be many other things

Thanks Jason for your input, I thought there might be a known fault out there that's common someone has come across before, but clearly not. I will take it in, it's not simple by the sounds of it. Cheers

Get the codes read as Jason said but I'd start your search at the coil packs, happened on my 996 (regular problem on all these models) and a very likely occurrence in your hot country.

Not big just a bit awkward done from underneath. Parts fairly expensive though as there are 6 but not all may be gone.
