Post subject:  Water in the battery compartment

Hi All
With this wounderfull weather we are having this summer and my car spending a lot of time out in the open I am having lots of problems with water in the battery compartment.
This has caused my alarm to go off twice and filled my motion sensor with water.
Am I right in assuming that this problem only exists with older Boxsters (mine is a 1998) and if so has anyone come up with a solution to the problem.

Theres rubber gromits either side of the battery that get blocked up easily , I`ve removed mine and haven`t had a problem since :D

HI Rodger, how has the move gone? I assume it's wetter there hence finding the leak

Hi Jim

Yes it has been very wet down here, the move went fine and I have just been to my first TIPEC south west meeting.
Great bunch and some nice cars. Have you fitted those calipers yet.

Regards

Roger.

Roger, it'll be worth putting some silica gel crystals in there to ensure the damp is out. Also still worth looking at the seals because obviously water can get in.

Hi Jim

There are no seals around that part of the bonnet, the main compartment is sealed and that is OK but the battery compartment is more or less open to the elememts.
The water runs off the windscreen and is channled away during normal running and normal rain but the rain we have had down here this year has been anything but normal, so the ability of the channels to cope has been undermined and the water has flooded over the top and into the well under the battery.
But hopefully removing those gromits will now allow the water to escape as fast as it pours in.
(Boxsters were'nt ment to be kept out in the rain)

Late reply, but those grommets are the top of the drain tubes, you are just diverting the water down another non original route. The procedure for clearing the drain tubes below the grommets is an airline. Info can be found on this link..
