Hiya Ken, I may be completely wrong but I thought this was only a big problem with the 986 Boxster/996 911? I'm sure if I'm wrong someone more knowledegable on the subject will correct me. It's a worry for me as well as I've got my heart set on a 996 as frankly this is the only 911 I can afford, having said all that I have been driving around for the last 3 years in my supposed problem Boxster 986 taking it from 114,000 miles to 128,000 miles and not a peep. It also depends who you talk to as some have said "don't even think about it, it will fail!" :( (Porschapart) and others have said "it aint the problem it is made out to be, the internet has greatly exaggerated it" :D

without a doubt the rms was a problem on early boxsters and the 996, but I have to ask:

if a car such as a 996 has done what by now 70k? surely it was either going to break or it is over the problem? Just a thought? I know of the ongoing intermediate shaft problem (alleged) but ffs there are loads of 996 and early boxsters still running around quite happily
