Thought I was going mad when I found the car unlocked with the front hood 'popped' but it happened again today - when I was walking towards it the hood popped up and it unlocked itself with no help from me. Anyone else experienced this puzzler?

Keep your keys out of range of the car when parked, check your car every now and again (without your keys), if it only happens when you are near the car, it could be faulty key heads, we have seen this a few times.

The other thing, check under your passenger seat for dampness.. .One design fault of the Boxster is that the alarm control unit, which also controls the covers as well as locking, is under the passenger seat, which when it rains collects water if your roof drains in the back are not clear!

Ahh you have Cayman in your signature, sorry, Cayman do not suffer with the roof drain issues.

Interestingly, had a chat with someone today who called, a 997 owner, who is suffering with a drivers door window which randomly winds down half way when the car is locked, and keeps popping the luggage cover.

I think I can see a mini 9X7 epidemic on the way!

No!
Your Cayman is a 987 as it is based off the Boxster.
The 997 is the 911 style Porsche (rear engine)

All these numbers are essentially the Porsche designated internal model numbers.

The chassis number of all Porsches will show you what model of Porsche you have.
Digits 7,8 & 12 of your chassis number will confirm what Porsche designated model you have. (See the attached photo)

In the example given, the vehicle in question is a 996.

Check your Cayman chassis number, you will see the following
Chassis no. digit 7 = 9
Chassis no. digit 8 = 8
Chassis no. digit 12 = 7

signifying that your Cayman is a 987!

I hope this makes sense.
