Fitted some zunsport grills to the front of the car, really pleased with the look.
Bit difficult to fit at times as the lower half ones are a bit of a pain to get right but they are in

I washed the Boxster this morning, it was looking lovely. So the sensible thing to do was stick it back in the garage and put the dust cover on it. But I'm not really sensible, so I've taken it out for a spin and covered it in flies and bugs again. Damned Boxster is just such great fun! :bounce:

Took a look at the sender unit in the Boxster... First real job since she arrive a few weeks ago but the fuel light being on all the time is really bugging me now....

Battery out then battery tray....

Image

But as it's looking pretty ropy, it got a couple of coats of smooth Hammerite....

Image

Under the battery tray is the sender unit and fuel lines - the high pressure feed is the left hand one of the top two and there is plenty of fuel in there so have the rags at the ready!

Image

Unplugged the connector and added a 51ohm resister between the middle two pins... added a battery back in and checked the guage on the dash...

Image

Image

And the guage is fine....

Image

So it is the sender unit... and out it comes

Image

Can't quite make it out on this shot but the wires are all secured out if the way so the float isn't getting caught on anything but on moving it up and down its very stiff and doesn't move freely hence it not working on the guage... New one need ed off the bay...

Image

It's all back together and cleaned up until a replacement arrives....

Thanks Stuart :)

Finished things off this morning with the very shiny battery tray and painted clamp....

Image

Image

Also cleaned up the plastic trims top and bottom and refitted lose carpet and abs cover...

Image

Image

Interestingly, the fuel guage sprung back into life for about 25 miles this afternoon with 1/2 a tank and some vigorous driving :D but then gave up the ghost again

Image

I would welcome thoughts on replacing or recolouring the plastic scuttle panel which has faded to grey...

Washed it..........For the first time I am using a Snow Foam, but for now only the Demon Foam on a normal hose (although our water pressure is pretty high here 2.5 bar), seems to work very well, let it soak then wipe over with a noodle mitt and then used the Demon Shine via the hose and dried with a decent cloth.....looked great.....30 minutes later it pi55ed down and still is, oh well the beading looks good

Continued the wiper refurb on the 944 cab....

Partially installed my bargain buy in the Boxster.... I say partially as the arial lead in the Boxster is the standard size where as head unit is smaller so an adapter will be needed....

Image

It's the Becker head unit which is the usual Radio and CD of the Porsche CD22 made for Porsche by Becker.... but this is also the Sat Nav version from the Rover 75 :D :D :D and it's a bargain price in comparison to the Porsche branded identical unit :bounce:

Started the dismantle on the OSF upright on the Boxster but the wheel seems welded to the hub - no amount of blows with a rubber mallet would shift it - so plan B, we'll do it with the wheel on then!

Began with undoing the top nut - crows foot wouldn't fit in the gap so used a 21mm spanner and 7mm hex - it started to undo OK after an overnight soak in WD40 but the spanner just didn't have enough purchase on the nut for last few turns.

Plan C. undo the top mount from the car and compress the strut to get better access for spanner and hex but needed the spring out of the way first - hacksawed through the broken spring to get the spring out of the way and hey presto, compress the strut tied it down with rope and it came off a treat!

Top mount rubber looks in very good order, only a bit of surface corrosion on the top mount itself.

Image

Top bearing also really smooth so dismantled all this and cleaned it all up. Top mount is currently in rust remover ready for a paint job.

New H&R springs arrived this afternoon and they look superb!! Cant wait to get these babies on the car :D Just the new bump stops to arrive now :|

Donington calls this weekend so it’ll be Monday before I get much more done…

Few coats of Hammerite on the top mount for the 986

Image

Polished the bearing surfaces for the top mount to go back in when the bump stop arrive this afternoon

Image

Applied a liberal amount of grease and reassembled the top mount - it spins nice and smooth again :)

I've been fitting my new in car dvr to the Boxster today... Quite a neat install hiding the cabling behind the screen trim. Fairly easy just a few torx screws :)

Image

Image

Image

So I'm down to the fuse box and I need a permanent +ve and a switched +ve.... Any suggestions on how/ where best to connect these?
