Hi all, New ownership week here.
Just had a day of poking around really, you know trying to find out thing like "how do you set up the satnav" and "how does this oil check work". Oh did put a sim in and get the phone set up and spend an hour reading the docs that came with the car. I have a Gen1 on 2009 plate so will look at adding DRL's as a first job, not needed but a way of familiarising myself with things in general (and I can't find anything else that needs doing). So far I must say I have been impressed with the refined ride and general build quality. I tried counting and I think this is around car number sixty that I have owned but hey I am coming up to 73 this year.

Yes another new Cayman owner also, took it along to Bristol OPC for a full check up, and I knew it was due a service when I bought the car, helped with the price negotiations. All good, and happy with the car so far.... but I will be keeping the 968. .

Hardwired my dashcam today - easy job using the nextbase kit, took power from fuseway C1 (987.2 2.9 PDK) (couldn't find any others that were switched) it was a result since that fuseway was unused (its for the 4WD control module for the 997T apparently) - all hidden away - only visible cable is a short run from top of dash to bottom of windscreen drivers side - along the join with the a pillar.

Almost happy with the additional bits now - have iPhone sorted for bracket, handsfree, and music through PCM and now the dash cam - just need to see if I can find an acceptable (fiddle and aesthetics factor) to the slow charging of the phone from the universal media interface - I have some ideas there - but need to hunt down suitable "kit"

Phone isn't powered from ciggy lighter - power for phone comes from the USB port in the universal media interface in the cubby hole - the Porsche Y cable plugs in there and the "iPod" port - thats where the slow charge comes from - that port is USB 2 spec - 0.5A

My "long term plan" is to replace the transformer for the hard wired dashcam with a dual outlet one - so from one "switched power" connection I can run the dashcam and put decent (1A plus) into the USB part of the Y cable - but I need to find a transformer that is not at its limits with 1.5A camera and 1A phone and all the ones I have found so far max at 2.5A - ideally would want one that could handle 5 - and then there's plenty for peaks etc.

What I have works - it's just not quite how I want it (and if the phone needs a boost - I do have a 2.5A usb ciggy adapter - but that means cables and things on show and in the way a bit)

Nothing too glamorous, just the rear discs and pads, along with the sensors & the (very expensive) shims as they were completely toasted. The rears take way more punishment than you would expect.

Needed to replace drivers front side light lamp located in the front fog light, the bulb had failed, and in my clumsiness I cracked the glass lens.... looking on the internet, prices for these fog light units seem to vary from £85 to £160!! Anyone know the price from an OPC?? Don’t really want to get stung from the internet resellers.....part number I believe to be 987 631 083 00

Thanks Martin!, I had a feeling you would reply, I’m guessing a cracked fog light is an MOT fail now? I’ve super glued the glass back together, but MOT is due next month, so I’m looking at replacement.

I've been doing alsorts of things to my 2000 986 S why the lockdown has been on, Today i fitted a new Fuel Tank Bleeder Valve , It was a bit of a fiddle but not to bad, I was getting the blowing sound coming from the front near the filler door so fitted a new fuel cap but was still getting the sound, Sounds a bit like a tiny fog horn! So it had to be the Valve unit itself, Found a new unit on ebay that was 'New old stock' for half the price of one on the porsche websites , Fitted & no fog horn, Sorted. :D
