Hopefully there are some experts here that can help me!!
Whilst raising the roof, almost at the end of it's travel, the mechanism made an odd noise and the roof stopped moving. I managed to pull the roof forward the last inch and lock in place. When I got home, it was apparent that only one side of the clamshell was moving, and that after a short while the mechanism stopped working due t0 the twisting motion and presumably overload protection on the motor. I investigated further and found that the drive cable on the passenger side is broken. That's a relatively easy fix according to everything I've read. However, the problem I have is that I can't open the clamshell fully to effect the repair. Does anyone know how I can get the clamshell open when there is only drive to one side, and that's only for a couple of inches?

Dave

If a Boxster is anything like a 911, there is a manual override.

Your instruction manual should have the instructions and the tool should be in your tool roll.

Be very careful, whilst the cables are cheap the motors & gearboxes are not!

You can indeed manually override it, from memory the wheel brace in the tool kit is used to undo the central bolt in the arms on the gearboxes so you can manually move the roof.

Fitting the new cable is really easy, but get it all lined up wrong and you might wreck the cables, gearboxes or even twist the frame, I would recommend getting them replaced and the cables and gearboxes set up by a specialist
