Noticed today after driving for a while the odd squeak coming from behind me which seemed to become more frequent the longer I was driving, but never became constant. if I stop engine for a while it goes away but comes back say 5 mins into the drive.

Appears to be coming from around gearbox/clutch side but not certain.

Car had a complete clutch kit 2 years and 5k miles ago, gearbox was repaired (was jumping out of 2nd) 3 months and 1000 miles ago so guessing all ok there

There is receipt for an investigation to a noise and a cracked polybelt was discovered and it was replaced and the pully sprayed with silicon but Im prett sure noise coming from other side.

Looking through service history pretty much most bits have been done with the exeption of water pump - what does that sound like when on way out ?

or any other ideas ?????

That noise sounds very much like when a spark plug is not tight enough and the engine compression is squeezing past the rubber plug tube on the end of the coil, i have seen this many times.
Remove coils and check spark plugs are tight, i could be wrong as its never easy listening to something and not being under the car.
Also very common is the oil seperator fails and causes a screaching noise similar to a water pump failure noise, however thats a contstant noise normally, good clue there is lots of sucking in the oil filler cap and the noise would go with cap removed.

Good luck

I'm getting the exact same thing, been getting progressively worse and I decided to take action today because it has become very noticeable and highly annoying. It sounds exactly like the recording. It happens both while stationary and moving. It can be heard inside the car and also from outside the car, even stood a few yards away, and is quite noticeable. It is most pronounced near to the offside air vent, is that where your noise is coming from?
