I have just been told that my 'minor' central locking problem is down to the ECU and that basically they cannot be replaced because they are factory fitted and inetgral to the build, probably not quite true as the repairer is not a Porsche main dealer, but does anybody know where you can pick up used parts and if a used ECU is re-programmable? :(

Thanks

Firstly Hi & welcome

Two answers. Have a chat to SImon at Poschapart he has lots of older Boxster experience & races one. Also contact BBAreman as they rebuild ECU & electronic modules they may be able to repair it.

Not aware they have an ecu for the locking...?
Alarm control unit is under the pass seat and causes locking issues if it fails, do they mean this one..?
If so, it is programmed to the car, so second hand ones are useless.
Not silly money new though..
You need to clarify exactly which part is needed..

Yep, it is the unit under the passenger seat that is causing the problem; I am starting to investigate a replacement but my garage's thought was that I would probably have to buy new as it is progammed to the car (as you have said). I might be able to get it repaired using BBA Reman or similar but, they were unimpressed with BBA. Apparently the last time they had a repair done BBA could not/did not do they programming so in addition to paying BBA to repair the unit you end up back at the Porsche main dealer having to buy a new unit and have it programmed by them (Germany is the only place you can get the codes).
Immediate problem was solved by replacing a couple of switches and simply disconnecting the alarm noise. Car can be locked, Horn works but, if the car is broken into only the lights flash but you dont get noise - at present I can live with that as I keep it in a locked garage except when I use it!
